What to Expect at Your First Orthotics Appointment
We understand that starting the process of getting a scoliosis brace can feel overwhelming, at OAPL we want to make sure you know what to expect at your first visit.
What will happen during your appointment:
- Discussion: We’ll begin by talking about your diagnosis, treatment goals/expectations, and address any questions or concerns you may have.
- Assessment: Your orthotist will review your posture and spinal alignment to ensure the brace design meets your needs.
- Measurements & Scans: We will take precise measurements utilising a 3D scan of your torso. This helps us create a custom brace that fits comfortably and provides corrective forces to help manage your scoliosis.
- Next Steps: We’ll explain the timeline for fabrication and schedule your fitting appointment.
How to prepare:
- Wear a comfortable, fitted shirt (such as a singlet or sports top) and bike shorts or leggings for an easier assessment.
- Bring any recent imaging or reports from your doctor if available.
- Feel free to write down any questions you’d like to ask.
Our goal is to make this process as smooth and supportive as possible.
We look forward to seeing you and working together toward your treatment goals.
